Sun Koshi Rafting

Rafting in Nepal Sunkoshi river is one of best rivers in the world for rafting and kayaking trip. It has got lots of things to offer for rafters- beautiful mountains, dense forest, open plains and valleys of different size. On top of all these, the roaring Sunkoshi.

Dumja is the starting point for Sunkoshi River which is merely three hours drive to the east of Kathmandu. This trip can take about 7-9 days covering 240KM section of the river depending on the season. This eastern river is classed 5 grades in Sep-Dec and Jan - May. Normally in between June and August we don’t run any trip on this river. This is the longest river trips offered in Nepal. Starts from beautiful Mahabharat range and finish at Chatara in Terai. Beginning of this trip may not be adventurous to professional rafters as its only limited to grade II and III. But soon their disappointment will change into amusement. From third day onwards, the rapid become narrower, bigger and more powerful.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Our staff will pick you up from hotel and we go for breakfast. After the breakfast, we head towards Dumja- the starting point. From the beginning of the trip you will see different mountains welcoming you. Before the trip lunch is served and guide leader will brief you about the trip. Eventhough, first and second days are quite relaxed, you will still have to go through 4+ rapid called Rotten Cave.

Day 02: Whistling river and bird chirp would not let you sleep. we start rolling down the river. We believe you have plenty of energy to face this naughty 4+ rapid –the Meta Grinder. Our expert guides will let you know how to deal with anyway. Few hundred yards from this point, Tamakoshi, another river meets our river and creates bigger rapids. We camp just by the place where these rivers greet one another.

Day 03: On this day, 3+ Pre Anxiety and 4+ High Anxiety will be anxiously waiting their to test our impatience. But our guides have enough tricks to deal with their anxiety.

Day 04: This day starts with several class 3+ followed by bigger rapids. We will also encounter some smaller rapids Harkapur 2 and 3. They need to be dealt with extra care.

Day 05: As we go down from Harkapur, Dudhkoshi, another influential river joins Sunkoshi. From this point unwards river widens a bit and rapids becomes smaller. But even these smaller rapids can become tricky as “JAW”

Day 06: If day 5 disappointed you because of smaller rapids, then get your sleeves up to face the challenging day six. Today most of rapids that come on our way will be 4+. Rapids like Rhino Rock and Jungle Corridor are some examples. Have you ever enjoyed shower from natural water falls? Get ready. Don’t let this opportunity slip away.

Day 07: Did day six make you tired. Don’t worry. Its simple today. You can also try kayaking if you like. But you need some basic skills for this action.

Day 08: The Big Dipper is the last class 4+ rapid. It is bit tricky one as it has huge waves and strong current. Few miles down this point, significantly big rivers Arun and Tamor join Sunkoshi. Result of this, you will experience stronger current. Our trips come to an end at around three o’clock and we drive back to Kathmadu.
